The race will be the 64th running of the Bathurst 1000, which began as a 500-mile race for Australian-made standard production sedans at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in 1960 and will be conducted for the 61st time at Mount Panorama. The Australian 1000 event was held for the 24th time, following an organizational split between the Australian Racing Drivers Club and V8 Supercars Australia, which saw two “Bathurst 1000” races in 1997 and 1998. It will be the first time in the event’s history that it will take place in December, and it will also be the first time that it will last a week.
